IT User Skills
Who the award is for?
This qualification is intended for you, if your job role involves using computers and IT systems to carry out tasks involving the regular use of a range of different IT applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, specialist software or even mobile devices such as smartphone. You will be working either as an individual, or as part of a team, probably in an office environment, using IT to support your department or business.
Course Content
To achieve the Level 2 Diploma in IT User Skills (ITQ), you will need to complete units to gain a minimum of 38 credits. The credit total is made up from:
- 4 credits from mandatory Group A, Improving Productivity Using IT.
- A minimum of 16 credits from optional units at the qualification level.
- A minimum of 18 credits from a choice of optional units at Level 1 or above which can include a Sector Specific Unit with a credit value of up to 4
To achieve the Level 3 Diploma in IT User Skills (ITQ), you will need to complete units to gain a minimum of 39 credits. The credit total is made up from:
- 5 credits from the mandatory unit Improving Productivity Using IT
- A minimum of 15 credits from optional units at the qualification level.
- A minimum of 19 credits from a choice of optional units at level 1 or above.

- Using email
- Using the internet
- Using mobile devices
- Desktop publishing
- Wordprocessing software
- Multimedia software
- Imaging software
- IT user fundamentals
Throughout the course, you will follow a learning plan that sets targets and checks your progress. You’ll also have a Learning Advisor, who will guide you during your programme.

You will learn through; your place of employment, directed study as well as guidance and support from one of our Learning Advisors.
Assessment Methods
To achieve this award your job knowledge and practical tasks will be assessed through an electronic portfolio of evidence, using our e-NVQ system. Methods of assessment can include observation, discussion, documentation, testimony and personal statements.

Career Possibilities
All businesses have a need for IT User Specialists to support and develop the use of software applications that help to run the business. Following completion of your award you may choose to progress into a particular area of using IT such as producing web pages, building or administrating databases or analysing data using spreadsheets. Other opportunities include designing and producing documents, such as brochures, flyers etc. Also:
- Using specialist software such as AutoCAD to produce technical drawings used in building and engineering
- Producing presentations for use within a business or training environment
- Accounting using specialist financial software applications
- Using database to store, retrieve and process information.
