Diploma in ICT Professional Competence (Levels 2 & 3)
Who the course is for
This qualification is intended for you if your job role involves carrying out a range of IT practical tasks such as PC building, fault finding, diagnosis and repair, Installation, software installation & upgrades, IT networks or similar tasks relating to the role of an ICT technician. You will be working as part of a team in an ICT service company, or an internal ICT support department within a business.
Course Content
The Diploma in ICT Professional Competence consists of 4 mandatory and a choice of over 20 optional units, covering a wide range of ICT skills. There is also the opportunity to gain IT User qualifications through the restricted option units, which cover most common user applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases etc and vendor specific qualifications offered by Microsoft, Cisco and CompTIA:
You must complete three out of the four mandatory units
- Health and safety in ICT and contact centres
- Develop personal and organisational effectiveness
- Customer Care OR Interpersonal and Written Communication
You must then achieve the remaining Unit Credit Values (UCV) from a number of optional units, which include the following:
- Software installation and upgrade
- System management
- System operation
- Technical advice and guidance
- Technical fault diagnosis
- Technical fault remedy
- Testing IT Systems
- Working with ICT Hardware and Equipment
Throughout the course, you’ll follow a learning plan that sets targets and checks your progress. You’ll also have a Learning Advisor (an assessor), who will guide you during your programme.
Learning Methods
You will learn from undertaking real tasks in your place of work, as well as receiving individual support from your Learning Advisor.
Assessment Methods
You will provide evidence that will show you are able to do your job to required standards. Evidence includes observations, included recorded video observations, witness testimonies, discussions, personal statements and photographs, all of which can be uploaded on to e-NVQ our electronic portfolio.

Career Possibilities
All businesses have a need for qualified ICT technicians to support their ICT Infrastructure and ensure the systems are running efficiently. The ICT support staff will vary with the size and purpose of the organisation. There is also a continuous growth in the use if ICT in the home and many companies supply products and offer support for home users. Following completion of your qualification you may to choose to progress into a particular area of ICT such as networking, help desk support or managing and administering ICT systems.
