Posted on 06/08/2010

Health and safety is some times used as a false excuse for not employing people with a disability, however research shows that disabled employees areas productive as their colleagues says the Health and Safety Executive.

They go on further to say:

Disabled employees have less time off sick, stay longer in their jobs and have fewer work accidents

20% of the workplace, that is 6.9 million people, have some form of disability or impairment

Only 17% of people with a disability are born wit that disability, the majority acquire that disability during their working life

There are some good case studies that show the practicality of making reasonable adjustments to a workplace and two excellent leaflets follow the link at the bottom.

Remember that disabilities are not always visible. Everyone has a duty to be health and safety conscious and be aware of the health and safety risks in their workplace.
